Hey, pet pals! Get ready for the ultimate Earth Hour 2024 adventure with your four-legged sidekick. Let’s make March 23, 8:30 pm the “Pawsitively Biggest Earth Hour for Earth” by diving into any of these entertaining and eco-friendly activities with our pets.
Earth Hour is a global movement that brings millions together to stand up for the planet. Started by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, Earth Hour shows symbolic support for the planet and aims to raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it–and yes, that includes our furry friends! Traditionally, people all over the world would switch off their lights for one hour to show their support for Earth Hour.
In 2023, WWF stepped up its efforts to hit its goal of reversing nature loss by 2030. It evolved Earth Hour into the Biggest Hour for Earth, urging individuals worldwide to spend 60 minutes doing anything positive for the planet. The Earth Hour website gives numerous creative ideas to Give an Hour for Earth in 2024. Of course, Mo and Bear can’t help but give our own spin to these activities! This year, let’s go beyond the traditional lights-off moment and have fun with our pets in making a difference!
Take your pet on a moonlit adventure under the stars! Embrace the darkness, let the moonlight guide your way, and connect with nature. Don’t forget to bring your eco-friendly poop bags– we need to keep it green when nature calls!
No Earth Hour date? No problem! Set the mood with a candlelit dinner for your cat. Enjoy a plant-based meal while your cat indulges in Purr Delight Tuna with Moringa. Our cats can’t go plant-based since they need a healthy dose of protein sources like tuna. Because our cats deserve nothing but the best, Purr Delight is made from real tuna and fresh moringa from local and sustainable sources.
Did you know that Doga (doggy yoga) is a thing? Stretch it out with Fido in a Doga session–it’s good for both of you! Check out AnimalWised Doga Class on YouTube, but consider your and your dog’s physical conditions before you practice. Also, not all dogs are yoga enthusiasts, so respect their decision!
Turn your Earth Hour into a wild adventure! Many pets love are fascinated by nature documentaries, as this Reddit thread shows. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison found shows featuring other dogs and critters piqued canine curiosity the most! Start channeling David Attenborough on YouTube and let your pet revel in the entertaining wonders of the animal kingdom.
Is fetch getting old? Not in the dark! Turn off the lights, grab a glow-in-the-dark toy, and play fetch like never before! Online stores carry some glowing pet toys, which are ideal for night-time fetch. Choose non-toxic toys so your pet can chew, tug, and pull to their heart’s content!
Set up a nature scavenger hunt for your pet! Hide their favorite treats or toys around the house and in your garden, keeping both of you entertained. Try these tips for the ultimate scavenger hunt with pets:
Pamper your pet with an eco-friendly spa day. Use sustainable grooming products like Happy Life Pet Shampoo and Conditioner for dogs and cats. Natural ingredients like neem, Madre de cacao, aloe vera, coconut oil, and lavender moisturize fur and protect against fleas and ticks.
Plan an epic outdoor adventure! Explore pet-friendly trails, parks, and beaches to turn Earth Hour into a paw-some nature escapade. Some places your pets are welcome are Ayala Triangle Gardens, Fort Santiago Park, People’s Park Davao, BGC Central Park, The Farm at San Benito, Stilts Calatagan Beach Resort, Baguio Botanical Garden, and Caliraya Ecoville Recreation and Farm Resort. Just be a responsible pet owner and follow the area’s policies when visiting!
Get creative and craft DIY pet toys from recycled materials. Turn old t-shirts into tug toys or cardboard boxes into puzzle feeders. We especially love Catster’s DIY Cat Trees ideas with instructions. Create a zero-budget cat condo from old cardboard boxes, recycled fabric, and easy-to-find materials like sticky tape, scissors, and glue.
Capture Earth Hour memories with a creative photo shoot! Professional photographers swear by taking photos on “the golden hour”, which is the last hour before sunset and the first hour before sunrise. But feel free to choose any time that suits you and your pet’s comfort! Our pets have limited time on the planet, so seize the moment and capture those fun and whimsical memories in stunning photographs. Each snapshot celebrates our bond with our pets and this year’s Earth Hour.
As we celebrate Earth Hour with our beloved pets, take the opportunity to create timeless memories with your favorite animal friend. From moonlit strolls to candle-lit dinners and glow-in-the-dark fetch to pet-friendly yoga, each activity carries loads of fun beyond the usual lights-off. There’s no shortage to meaningful ways you can include your pet in this celebration. Happy Earth Hour 2024 from Mo and Bear!
